Cancer remains one of the major issues for public health systems worldwide. It has been a disease since ages but till date it lacks understanding of biomarkers and the complexity of cancer genomics means the cure has not been found. Latest reports indicate that 7 out of 10 deaths from cancer will occur in Africa, Asia and Central and South America (source) 2, suggesting early diagnosis and effective treatment of cancer remains high priority.
Cancer is an overarching term when cells abnormally grow in the body, often leading to the growth of a cell mass, known as a tumor. This can happen due to many reasons hence cancer has been difficult to treat. The cells multiply through the process of cell division—the splitting of one cell into two—but in cancer the cell division occurs at an unchecked pace. Stopping that unchecked cell division can be key to ending a cancer’s growth. Many innovations have already been made, but cancer cure remains unresolved.
